We are delighted to announce the launch of a new Saho-language magazine, called ‘Balballe’, which literally translates as “hot news” and can be more evocatively interpreted as a ‘Fiery Letter’; a voice that speaks with urgency, passion, and purpose.

This magazine has been founded with the idea of killing two birds with one stone, which is having a dual purpose in mind. On the one hand, it seeks to document and develop the language, culture, history, traditions, and the evolving realities of modern life, including technology.

 On the other hand, it serves as a valuable platform for generating high-quality linguistic data that contributes directly to the ongoing development of the Saho corpus. In this way, Balballe aims not only to preserve heritage but also to actively strengthen and expand Saho literature for future generations.

The idea for the magazine grew out of an online campaign dedicated to collecting texts for the Saho corpus. While many individuals generously contributed materials, an important insight emerged over time: writers, particularly younger voices, are far more motivated when they have a platform to express themselves freely and see their work published, rather than simply submitting texts for data collection. Balballe is therefore designed to nurture creativity, encourage diverse expression, and provide a meaningful outlet for Saho writers of all backgrounds.

Beyond its role as a publication, the magazine aspires to become a learning space for the wider community. By engaging with its content, readers will have the opportunity to develop and refine their reading and writing skills in Saho, fostering both confidence and pride in the language.

Finally, we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed through writing, editing, organising, or supporting this initiative in any way. Your efforts have made this vision a reality. يسرّنا أن نعلن عن إطلاق مجلة جديدة باللغة الساهو تُسمّى «بلبلي»، والتي تُترجم حرفياً إلى «الأخبار الساخنة»، ويمكن فهمها بشكلٍ أعمق على أنها «رسالة ملتهبة»؛ صوت يتحدّث بإلحاحٍ وشغفٍ وهدف

لقد تأسست هذه المجلة على فكرة تحقيق غايتين في آنٍ واحد. فمن جهة، تسعى إلى توثيق وتطوير اللغة والثقافة والتاريخ والتقاليد، وكذلك مواكبة التحوّلات المتسارعة في الحياة المعاصرة، بما في ذلك التكنولوجيا

ومن جهةٍ أخرى، تُعدّ منصةً قيّمة لإنتاج بيانات لغوية عالية الجودة تُسهم بشكلٍ مباشر في تطوير مدوّنة اللغة الساهوية الجارية. وبهذا، لا تهدف «بلبلي» إلى حفظ التراث فحسب، بل تسعى أيضاً إلى تعزيز الأدب الساهوي وتوسيعه بصورةٍ فعّالة للأجيال القادمة

وقد نشأت فكرة المجلة من حملةٍ إلكترونية هدفت إلى جمع نصوص لمدوّنة اللغة الساهوية. وبينما ساهم العديد من الأفراد بسخاء في تقديم المواد، برزت ملاحظة مهمّة مع مرور الوقت، وهي أن الكتّاب، ولا سيّما الأصوات الشابة، يكونون أكثر تحفيزاً عندما تتوفر لهم منصة يعبّرون من خلالها بحرية ويرون أعمالهم منشورة، بدلاً من مجرد تقديم نصوص لأغراض جمع البيانات. لذلك، صُمّمت «بلبلي» لرعاية الإبداع، وتشجيع التنوّع في التعبير، وتوفير منفذٍ ذي معنى لكتّاب الساهو من مختلف الخلفيات

وإلى جانب دورها كمجلة، تطمح هذه المبادرة إلى أن تكون فضاءً تعليمياً للمجتمع الأوسع. فمن خلال التفاعل مع محتواها، سيحظى القرّاء بفرصة تطوير مهاراتهم في القراءة والكتابة باللغة الساهوية وصقلها، بما يعزّز الثقة والاعتزاز بهذه اللغة.
